With the help of VectorFirstAid we can automatically rejoin paths, remove unnecessary compound paths and unpainted paths, and remove duplicate art. We can also close barely-open paths and filled unstroked paths, axis-align paths and convert objects to Dynamic Shapes. In today's article, you'll learn about the functions that perform these actions.
The Rejoin Paths function is intended for reunification of the path segments, the endpoints of which coincide or are located at a distance of the specified tolerance. Segment rejoining occurs automatically after clicking on the Rejoin Paths button in the VectorFirstAid panel (Window > VectorFirstAid > VectorFirstAid panel).
You can also start this function by choosing Rejoin Paths in the fly-out menu of the VectorFirstAid panel. In order to set the tolerance, choose VectorFirstAid Preferences in the fly-out menu and then set the desired value for the Rejoin Paths Tolerance. Here you can also specify whether or not you want to combine the paths with different styles, different directions and variable width strokes.
The Rejoin Paths function is often needed for work with vector objects, which are obtained by exporting from 3D and CAD applications.
The Remove Unnecessary Compound Paths function is designed for converting the compound path, the shape of which is single-contoured into a simple path. To start this function, select the appropriate command in the fly-out menu of the VectorFirstAid panel or turn on the document checkup by clicking on the Check Document button in the panel. After that, the number of unnecessary compound paths will be shown in the Checkups Results list. To convert them into common paths, click on the Fix Selected or Fix All buttons.
