In this tutorial I want to show you how to create a modern abstract background using standard shapes. Then I’ll show you how to transform these standard shapes into dynamic ones. This will allow you to smoothly manage their settings and even transform them into other objects so you can achieve new artwork in just seconds. All this has become possible thanks to the release of the new VectorScribe2 plug-in.
Create an Abstract Background with Standard Shapes
Step 1
First of all you’ll need to create an abstract background using the standard shapes in Adobe Illustrator. Create a rectangle using the Rectangle Tool (M) and make it the same size as an artboard would be. Then fill it with a linear gradient to produce light distribution on your artwork.
Using the Ellipse Tool (L) create two concentric circles as shown below.
Step 2
Select both circles and then click on the Minus Front icon in the Pathfinder panel.
Fill the resulting Compound path with a linear gradient from a white to light gray color.
Add a new fill to the shape by clicking on the appropriate button in the Appearance panel.
Select the lower fill in the panel, then go to Effect> Distort & Transform> Transform … and set the values for the Scale option.
