With the help of the VectorFirstAid plug-in, you can automatically reduce and remove points that are unnecessary or that increase the file size and make editing complicated. In today's article, you'll learn about the functions that perform these actions.
The Super Smart Remove points on paths function is designed to reduce the number of points on the selected paths or all the paths of the current document. By removing points, the function preserves the shape of the path within the specified tolerance. There is a similar function in the other Astute Graphic's plug-ins: VectorScribe and InkScribe. In the case of VectorFirstAid, points removal is done automatically after clicking on the Super Smart Remove button in the VectorFirstAid panel (Window > VectorFirstAid > VectorFirstAid panel).
You can also launch this function by choosing Super Smart Remove Points in the fly-out menu of the VectorFirstAid panel. In order to set the tolerance, choose VectorFirstAid Preferences in the fly-out menu of the VectorFirstAid panel.
The higher the value, the greater the number of the deleted points, but the more likely it is that the path will become somewhat distorted.
Let’s take a look at the action of the Super Smart Remove Points feature using the example of working with a variable width path after the Outline Stroke command (Object > Path > Outline Stroke). This path includes 56 points.
After pressing the Super Smart Remove Points there are only 7 points left.
