Alexey will tell us a little bit about himself and how he became a contributor of microstock websites:
“Hello, my name is Alexey and I’m a vector illustrator.
I was born and grew up in Belarus. I also finished school, med school there, and I even tried studying at the medical college. I don’t have any special art education, I only possess love for drawing since the early childhood and some experience of long evening hobby circles (graphics, drawing, wood carving, sculpture).
I became interested in computer graphics roughly in 2001, but my first timid attempts to study programs could occur only in 2004-2005 when I bought my first computer on which I could work in graphic editors.
In 2009 my life turned upside down and I moved to Poland, where I received my bachelor’s degree plus 1.5 years of class attendance in the Master Program “Corporate Identity and visual communication” at Wroclaw University.
While being a student I practiced my designer’s skills as a freelancer as well as in an advertisement company. I found out about the micro stock sites in 2010, but it seemed to be something unreal, abstract and not worth my trust. In 2012-2013 through LJ I met some guys who successfully worked (and mainly earned) at micro stock sites.
Since May 2013 I passed my exam on Shutterstock from the second try and began slowly but steady figuring out the stocks. Since the beginning 2014 I switched to full time by doing only stock illustration. I have no particular attachment to any style. I love experimenting and change topics, style, performance, so the work process remain being interesting. Most recently I was invited to participate in one young and very promising project as a designer-illustrator, so now I have to share my time between work and micro stocks - this is not easy, but it motivates me and keeps me in shape.
I suggest you to check out the process of Santa Yoga drawing.
