In this tutorial we will cover a technique for creating a Long Shadow effect using the Stylism plug-in, which will allow us to control the parameters of the effect using the annotation system. Long Shadow is a popular trend today which is why I think this tutorial will be useful for you. I’m hoping that you have already experienced using Stylism if not, download a 14 day free trial now!

Step 1

To demonstrate the technique of creating a Long Shadow effect, I will use the icon of the envelope that was created by me earlier.

Envelope represents a group of regular vector objects. Select that group, and then add a new fill to the Appearance panel (Window> Appearance) by clicking on Add New Fill button.

Step 2

Move the fill below Contents item in the Appearance panel so that the fill is below all the objects in the group.

Apply the Transform Live Effect to the envelope by clicking on the appropriate button in the Stylism panel (Window> Stylism> Stylism panel). To create a Long Shadow effect we will use the Stylism plugin, as it will allow us to control the parameters of the effect in a simple and intuitive manner using the annotation system, which appeared on top of the envelope.
