New Release 0.40.0 of Mesh Tormentor plug-in for Adobe Illustrator is available now

posted by: Iaroslav Lazunov, in Articles / News/ Comments: 2

To our common joy Iaroslav Tabachkovsky (Yemz) continues to improve free Mesh Tormentor plug-in that is designed for work with gradient meshes. The new release has two new features: "Add 0-width rows at selected sides" and "Sew mesh with path". In this article you will be able to download the latest version of the plug-in and meet its new features.

Mesh Tormentor installation is done by copying a file with the .aip extension into Plug-ins folder, which is located at the installation location of Adobe Illustrator (for example, C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator CS5\Plug-ins\). Close Adobe Illustrator before the plug-in installation.

To install the plug-in in Adobe Illustrator CS6 you need to open a file with the .zxp extension in Adobe Extension Manager CS6 program.

Sew mesh with path

This feature adds on one side a new row of cells, the boundary of which retraces the shape of the selected path. New nodes are filled with the color of stroke or fill (if the path has no stroke), or grey (if the path has neither fill nor stroke). Before pressing the "Sew mesh with path" button, fully or partially you need to select gradient mesh and path or multiple paths.

When selecting two or more paths, "Sew mesh with path" feature creates a gradient mesh that has one cell from two upper paths. At the same time the paths form opposite segments of the gradient mesh.

Add 0-width rows at selected sides

Adding a row of cells of zero width is used to improve the nature of color transition on the side cells of the gradient mesh.

The side is considered selected, if both of the corner nodes that lie on this side are selected, or if at least one corner node or vertex that lies on this side is selected

To delete a row of cells of zero width, click "Add 0-width rows" button, holding down Command / Ctrl.

To remove any row of cells on the selected side, click "Add 0-width rows" button, holding down Command / Ctrl + Option / Alt.

I have tried the mona lisa icon but I can not get it to work. I turned a raster image into template then I created a new layer, created a square over the image made a gradient mesh, selected all of the gradient mesh and clicked on the mona lisa icon but nothing happens, no coloring. If I color it manually there is no problem. What could I be doing wrong. I have CS 2 and Mesh Tormentor 0.40.00?

I think that you should embed the image (probably you work with the linked image).
