Vary Width Markers Tool allows adding width markers randomly to your selected paths. This feature has several parameters which allows us to adjust variation and create thousands of new width markers in a few seconds. In this article we will discuss how to manage and use the Vary Width Markers feature. I’m hoping that you have already experienced using WidthScribe if not, download a 14 day free trial now!
To apply the Vary Width Markers feature, select a path/paths and then go to Object > Path > Vary Width Markers…, this will open a dialog box with options of the feature.
Vary Width Markers options
Min Variation adds markers, the width of which varies from 100% to 0 % of the initial width of the path. In other words, the width of the path does not change or diminish in places where width markers will be added. The picture below shows in red the initial shape of the path.
Max Variation adds markers, the width of which varies from 100% to 1000% of the initial width of the path. In other words, the width of the path does not change or increase in the areas where the width markers will be added. The picture below shows in red the initial shape of the path.
Simultaneous change of both parameters, Min Variation and Max Variation, will lead to narrowing and expansion of the paths in the places of creating markers.
Spacing is the distance between the width markers. The smaller the value of this parameter, the more width markers will be created.
