Final Image Preview
In today’s tutorial, we’ll learn how to create a polygon vector portrait from bitmap images with the help of a free Triangulator web-based tool and MirrorMe plug-in, which will provide us with instantaneous symmetry. Let’s start!
Step 1
A web-based tool, called Triangulator, will be needed for this tutorial. It allows you to convert bitmap images to vector polygon art. Follow the link mentioned above, scroll to the bottom left, and click on the text link to download the tool on your computer.
Unzip the file, find the index.html file and open it in your browser.
I recommend that you use Google Chrome for these purposes. Triangulator works only with browsers that support the API files.
Step 2
Now we need a raster image that we’ll convert into vector. Triangulator works with all widely-spread image formats (GIF, JPG, PNG8 and PNG24). I’ll use the Beautiful Face of Young Woman from Shutterstock. Any other image would work as well. The size of the image can be reduced in any raster editor, for example, in Photoshop if its size is too big. I believe for more convenient operation, the width of the image should be between 600-800px. The image quality is not significant. Only one half of the face will be needed for work. Remove the extra part of the photo using the Crop Tool (C).
Step 3
Drag your image to the drop zone as it is shown in the picture below.
I would like to draw to your attention that you should have your browser in a full screen mode for Triangulator to work successfully
