It’s been many times that I’ve noticed that some designers make mistakes creating the reflection of objects. Actually, reflections obey the same laws of perspective as the object itself. In today’s article we will talk about these laws and create a reflection of a simple object using MirrorMe and Stylism. In my opinion, these tools are more convenient than Perspective Grid Tool, at least for building reflections. So let’s get started!
Let’s create a perspective of distortion of an object and its reflection on the example of a parallelepiped. Let’s name this object a brick. The picture below shows two projections of brick — frontal (top) and horizontal (bottom). This is how our brick looks when viewed from side and top.
Frontal projection of a brick can look like this only in the technical drafting. If we want to show the object as it is seen by the observer in the real world, we need to consider the impact of the perspective law, which states that the size of objects should decrease proportionally as they move away from the foreground. Now to build the object in the perspective, it is necessary to introduce additional concepts. It is the horizon, which corresponds to the line of the eye of the viewer; and vanishing points that lie on the horizon line and in which parallel lines of an object intersect.
The reader may come up with a perfectly legitimate question — at what distance from the object and relative to each other should vanishing points be placed? While the scheme in the picture above gives you a hint, but instead of answering here I would advise you to explore the wonderful book, Perspective Made Easy by Ernest R. Norling), which will expand your practical knowledge about the perspective.
So, for the perspective distortion of the sides of the brick, we will use Live Distort Effect of the Stylism plug-in. Select the right side of the brick, then click on the Live Distort Effect button in the Stylism panel (Window> Stylism> Stylism panel).
