posted by: Iaroslav Lazunov, in Illustrator Tips / Small Tutorials/ Comments: 0

In this tutorial we will learn how to create organic texture using Phantasm Halftone effect, some native effects and Actions feature. The resulting action can be used to generate a wide variety of vector textures in your future projects. Why spend time searching for the right texture, when it can be easily created!

Step 1

Create a rectangle of random size with no stroke and filled with neutral grey color. Proceed to Object > Create Gradient Mesh … and set the number of columns and rows in the dialog box.

Color gradient mesh nodes in different shades of grey color.

Step 2

Now with the help of Phantasm transform gradient mesh into a dotted texture. Proceed to Effect > Phantasm > Halftone … and set the appropriate parameters of the effect, for example, as shown in the picture below. Dot size depends on the color of nodes of the gradient mesh.

Save the properties of the object as a graphic style in the Graphic Styles panel. This is necessary to create an action later.
