The Dynamic Shapes Tool in the VectorScribe plug-in ideally works for quick creation of precise technical objects. However, you can also use this tool for drawing less regular organic shapes. Let’s see how it’s done on this example of a dandelion illustration, in which I have used more than 150 dynamic shapes, which made the workflow many times faster. In addition, the dandelion is still alive, that means that you can reconfigure most of its shapes.
This illustration of a dandelion has been used as the VectorScribe poster in presentations in different countries of the world.
It is very hard for me to believe that Dynamic Shapes were used here. Let’s prove this, go to Select > Dynamic Shapes > All. As you can see, the dandelion is almost entirely composed of dynamic shapes, and the entire document contains 178 of such objects
Let’s take a closer look at the anatomy of the dandelion seed.
To create the hairs on the top of the stem I used a Dynamic Star, which consists of 60 rays. This shape has been transformed into a Sliced shape, by moving Sliced controls.
To give a more natural look, I applied two native effects to the dynamic star. It is Twist effect (Effect > Distort & Transform > Twist …) and Pucker & Bloat effect (Effect > Distort & Pucker & Bloat …).
